Senior GIS Analyst

Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI) has a current need for a Senior Geographical Information System (GIS) analyst with a minimum of 5 years of GIS experience. This position will provide day-to-day support to AESI’s Kirkland, WA office and two satellite offices in Tacoma and Mount Vernon.


Duties and Responsibilities will include the following GIS and visualization services:


Data Analysis, Conversion and Map Production

  • Data research, acquisition, conversion, and compilation: compile and analyze geographic information from a variety of sources including internal data sources, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, existing maps, and public data.

  • Work with related GIS software and programs to create and maintain databases and/or maps that can be combined with geographically referenced data.

  • Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.

  • Enter new map data through use of a scanner or digitizer or by direct input of GPS data capture, processing, and mapping, or other coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.


GIS – Geographic Information Systems

  • Design and implementation

  • Analysis and 3D modeling

  • Integration of GIS with CAD and other visualization software

  • Use of aerial photography, LiDAR, and other remotely sensed data

  • Develop and support web GIS applications using AGOL including Esri Web App Builder, Story Maps, Hub, etc for internal and external users


Digital Elevation Modeling and Image Processing

  • 3D Engineering and scientific data visualization

  • 3D Terrain modeling and database development

Essential Technical Skills

  • Create, maintain and update internal reference datasets for use in GIS-based maps;

  • Assessor data

  • Other environmental data

  • Operate computer workstation to create project specific maps;

  • Typical products include Vicinity Map, Site and Exploration Map, Geology Map, Soils Map, Water Well Location Map, Critical Areas Map, Water Rights

  • Less typical products include Slope Analysis, Ground Water Contour Map, Geologic Cross Section, Plan Details

  • Produce printed maps;

  • Develop project deliverables in AGOL

  • Manage operation of GIS equipment, software, data, and products;

  • Serve as GIS lead for project marketing, budget development and resources scheduling


Desired Skills & Experience



Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Cartography, Geospatial Information Technologies, or related subjects.

  • 5+ years of recent GIS experience including program management, data maintenance and collection, spatial data standards, and functional relationships.

  • Strong familiarity with Whatcom, Skagit, King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap County and Municipality data sources

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent tasks, and meets deadlines.

  • Effective working knowledge of Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat.

  • US Citizen


Preferred Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of Esri GIS software and formats (AF standard) such as ArcGIS, geodatabases, and shapefiles. Some knowledge of Autodesk GIS software and formats.

  • Some knowledge of Rockworks, Surfer, Corel and AutoCad

  • Knowledge of geologic and hydrogeologic principles

  • Knowledge of Washington State water rights

  • Knowledge of environmental cleanup projects


Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Enter data into a computer terminal, PC, or other keyboard device requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand-eye movement.

  • Remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.

  • Perceive color as defined by the Inter Society Color Council-National Bureau of Standards system.

  • Perform fine hand movements in the accurate use of drafting instruments.

  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds.

Entry Level Staff Geologist/Engineer/Soils Technician

Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. is now accepting resumes for an entry level staff geologist/staff engineer/soils technician.

The position will mostly involve construction monitoring and soil density testing on construction sites.

Applicants must have a minimum of 1-year experience with a nuclear, moisture-density gauge, own vehicle and currently live in the Puget Sound region.

Hourly compensation and benefits depend on experience. AESI is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will be subject to a background check prior to employment.

This is a full time temporary position with possibility of permanent hire.



  • Live in Washington State, USA or have plans in motion to move to Washington State. This posting is for a temporary summer hire and relocation will not be provided.

  • Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds

  • Must have own working vehicle and able to drive it to job sites across the Puget Sound.

  • Required license or certification: Driver's License

  • Job Type: Full-time, Summer (June to October), Temporary with possibility of permanent hire.

  • Job Location: Kirkland, Tacoma, and Mount Vernon but our projects cover the entire Puget Sound.

  • Requested experience: soil density testing, construction monitoring: 1 year
