STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Alex Ybarra, L.G.
Senior Staff Geologist
Department: Geotechnical Engineering
AESI Staff since 2016

Alex started his journey at AESI back in April of 2016 and quickly jumped into the world of construction monitoring and geotechnical observation. While in school, Alex knew he didn’t want a typical desk job, and instead wanted to spend time outdoors and doing something where his work let him explore the different communities around him. After taking his first geology class, he never looked back and received a degree in Geology from Western Washington University.

Alex is an essential part of the AESI team. He is the full-time on-site geologist for many of our south end projects including large scale land development projects in and around the City of Black Diamond. Alex’s strong people skills and charismatic personality allow him to create meaningful connections with contractors and clients and ensure projects run smoothly. Alex enjoys revisiting old sites to see the completed product and finds it rewarding to know he played a part in the project’s success and helped set a good foundation for the rest of the project. In the future, Alex hopes to continue growing his skills and making connections with the project teams.

Alex has a busy summer ahead of him as he prepares to welcome the birth of his baby girl in July (Congratulations!) and embraces the rewards and challenges that come with being a new dad. Until then, he hopes to fill his summer with plenty of fishing and golfing and daydreaming about the first day of snowboarding season.
EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION!
Bradford Promoted to Associate Engineer!
Bradford joined the AESI team in 2019 as a Senior Engineer in the Geotechnical Department. Over the past 5 years, Bradford has been instrumental in many notable school projects including Inglemoor High School’s new concert hall/music building and ongoing campus replacement and Renton High School’s campus replacement, along with a multitude of other school additions and seismic upgrades. Bradford also enjoys the heavy side of construction and provided geotechnical special inspection oversight for the Chapter Buildings I and II mid-rise towers in the University District.

To spend time away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Bradford has also ventured to the Olympic Peninsula to assist with various stormwater improvement and expansion projects for the Ports of Port Angeles and Port Townsend.

In addition to all of his achievements, Bradford also successfully manages projects for some of AESI’s biggest clients and has developed strong professional relationships with many significant firms within the industry. This experience has allowed Bradford to become a mentor and internal training leader for technical aspects of design and construction related services and special inspections.

Congratulations, Bradford!
Peter Promoted to Project Geologist!
Peter started at AESI in 2015 as a recent Western Washington University graduate. He spent his first few years as a field technician on many of our construction observation jobs. While at AESI, Peter received his GIT certification and most recently, became a Licensed Geologist in the State of Washington.

In the last 9 years, Peter has progressed from construction site observation and testing to exploration, analysis, and design tasks. Now Peter is managing various projects, ranging from single family residences to schools, fields, and fire stations, from start to finish. Peter was also involved in a very notable and complex development project located in Arlington.

Peter excels at field work and communication and approaches each project as a geologic riddle waiting to be solved. His passion for geology, high expectations for his work, strong communication skills, and positive attitude make Peter an exceptional coworker and invaluable resource for new hires.

Thank you, Peter, well done!
